There always seem to be new and fascinating weight loss products that come to the market. Most however are in the form of herbs and or natural products that claim huge promises but then come up empty handed. This may not be the case with a new weight loss drug being experimented with currently called Tesofensine. So far its trials and tests are showing up with extremely good results. Some are saying it could be the next big thing in weight loss but it would most likely still be 3 years (2008 as this was written) down the road as it obviously has to go through numerous more testing etc.
The medication works by manipulating the part of the brain controlling ones appetite. When the user starts to eat, they feel full shortly after. As with any medication there are potential side effects including nausea, diarrhea, or constipation, mood swings or insomnia it also has shown to increase ones heart rate which could be troubling as many who are obese already have strained hearts. In a test, over 200 men and woman took either took the medication or a placebo. The ones taking the medication lost around double what other weight loss medications on the market are offering today when taken over a 6 month period. A patient in the test was quoted as saying "For the first time in my life, my appetite control is normal". If this drug pans out, it could not only make one lose weight, but could help with diabetes, the need for gastric banding, stomach stapling and other weight related health issues.
Now this all sounds wonderful but there are still many more trials and testing that would need to take place. Often initial testing results seem to indicate one thing but have left out many other issues. If the benefits outweigh the side effects there is a good chance the product could make it to market in 3 years. Time will tell what will become of
Tesofensine. A rough approximation would perhaps be into 2011 where a FDA submission may take place "if" all goes well.
Tesofensine, what some are calling the blockbuster in weightloss drug we have been waiting for.
